About Pioneer Gains

Pioneer Gains was built around a simple idea: fitness should help you become stronger, more capable, and more independent for life.

The name combines two ideas:

  • pioneering — leading your own path
  • gains — continual growth and improvement

At its core, PG is about lifelong fitness and self-development. It’s for people who want to stay strong, healthy, capable, and active at every stage of life, whether that means lifting weights, running, hiking, training for endurance events, or simply building a healthier lifestyle.

We believe fitness should improve your life, not consume it.

That means focusing on sustainable training, long-term health, endurance, strength, mobility, recovery, and building real-world capability over time.

There are no shortcuts. Real progress takes consistency, patience, and a willingness to keep showing up, especially when life gets busy or difficult.

The fitness industry is full of confusion, unrealistic expectations, and short-term thinking. PG exists to provide practical, well-researched, and experience-backed information that helps people train smarter and stay active for the long run.

At the end of the day, this is about building a stronger foundation for life through fitness, capability, and continuous growth.

 

About Me 

Hey, I’m Max Hamra, the founder of PG.

I’ve always been drawn to fitness, sport, adventure, and the outdoors. That eventually led me into a physically demanding career as a carpenter, where I learned firsthand the importance of staying strong, capable, and healthy while working long days on the tools.

Outside of work, training became a huge part of my life. First, strength training and running, then swimming, cycling, mobility, and endurance events all became ways to challenge myself and continue improving over time.

After finishing my apprenticeship, I took time away from carpentry to focus more heavily on training and personal growth. Around the same time, I travelled overseas through the UK and later around Australia solo, living out of my car, camping, hiking, training, and learning how to stay fit and healthy while travelling.

Those experiences reinforced something I kept coming back to: Staying fit and healthy anywhere.

PG was built to combine well-researched fitness information with real-world experience and practical advice focused on long-term health, strength, endurance, mobility, and overall capability.

I’m still building, still learning, and still living it myself, currently training for an Ironman 70.3 while continuing to grow PG one step at a time.
